A Book Release and a Poorly-timed Vacation!

Posted on March 19, 2024March 19, 2024 by cwilson

A week ago today, my new book hit the distribution warehouse in Minneapolis.

Four+ years of research, writing, and the editing-and-publication work finally manifested in the final product.

YAY!!!

Except….

We’d planned our vacation around the original estimated date-of-arrival, so that I could take a copy to my friend who lives in Oklahoma.

As schedules are wont to do, things changed.

The expected ship date from the press in Illinois was then set for March 13.

Perfect, I thought! (Aside from the inability to take a copy to my friend).
We’d be on vacation, I’d be nice and distracted, and both the books and myself would arrive in Minnesota at about the same time.

Again, YAY!!!

But then, on March 12, an email arrived (near the beginning of our vacation) that the book had ARRIVED at the distribution warehouse. It had shipped days early!

I had a full week to wait until I myself could get to the warehouse to pick up cases for upcoming events and to see the book for the first time.

Friends graciously sent photos of their pre-ordered copies, which began arriving at their homes within 24 hours of their reaching the warehouse.

Finally holding a copy of the book, in the parking lot at the distribution warehouse.

Again, YAY!!! and at the same time oh so hard to wait! Fortunately, the vacation was distracting enough that it wasn’t tooooooo torturous. In fact, it was wonderful. Aside from getting to see my friend on our way to Texas and again on our way home, we explored San Antonio, Del Rio, Corpus Christi, Austin, and Houston. The Alamo, the San Antonio Missions District, Seminole Canyon State Park, the LBJ National Historic site, the USS Lexington, Padre Island National Seashore, Inner Space Cavern, Houston Space Center, the Cosmosphere, and a visit to a friend’s grave were all used to make the time go faster!

Today, finally, we drove up to Minneapolis and brought home about a dozen cases of books to get me through the next few months of events.

After all boxes were in the truck, one was opened, and I pulled out a copy.

It feels good to see the final product. I truly love this book and the story it shares. I hope that you will, too!

Thank you for visiting! Both of these books were a labor of love. To say that sharing these stories and interacting with audiences has been an incredible joy is an understatement. This journey has transformed my life, and I am eternally grateful to the amazing people who have lifted me up to this new phase of life, which until fairly recently was focused on high-tech and communications. Research and storytelling is much more fun.

Where Should I Order a Book?
If you order the physical book through Itasca, I as the author will receive a higher percentage (40-50% higher) of the sale price compared to online mega-retailers. Another request is to consider supporting one of the Ingalls-Wilder Home Sites by ordering from them (the Resources page lists the Home Sites.) Bookshop.org is another excellent option, and supports local book sellers. If you enjoy these books and would be willing to leave a review (a star-rating is sufficient!), please do so. Amazon and Goodreads reviews are an important component in a book’s visibility. Thank you for taking the time to submit a review.

Note: When subscribing to the blog, you will receive an email to confirm that it was you who submitted your email. It will then ask you to create a Wordpress account, and I am unable to turn off that "feature." This is only so that you can manage your preferences (frequency and type of email from the blog, etc.) and I will not use it in any other way and I have no access to your information. Without the account, it does not appear that you will receive notifications about new blog posts. However, you can check back to see the posts as well, rather than subscribing.
